CASPAR COVE
(BEACH AND BOAT/KAYAK DIVING)
(SKILL LEVEL: NOVICE TO ADVANCED)

Caspar Cove offers diving at all levels from advanced to expert. There are excellent beach dives to either side of the cove from a flat sandy beach. For the more adventurous take a kayak further out adjacent to the cliffs and get in some real pristine diving. The most advanced dive at Caspar Cove is the point to the North. There is a deep canyon here which abounds with ling cod. The areas going to the point are also good for spearfishing. Abalone diving is good throughout the cove on the sides near the cliffs. The center of the cove is sandy and a good spot for large halibut, which makes spearfishing for flatties a definite possibility.

Caspar Cove is South of Fort Bragg approximately six miles. Take Mendocino milepost 53.0 or 54.71 and turn west on Pt. Cabrillo Drive. The beach is at the bottom of the road and there is limited parking on the road edge.

There is a private campground adjacent to the beach which is one of the quietest campgrounds on the Mendocino Coast with quiet hours at night and early morning. There is a small store at the campground. The campground also has hot showers and a Laundromat. During peak season I would recommend making reservations, the number is (707) 964-3306, or you may Fax them at (707)964-0526.

The decision to dive (or not) is your responsibility. Keep diving activities within your training and comfort level. If you feel more training or experience is needed before attempting a dive, don't dive. Know personal limits, skill levels, and abilities of yourself and your dive buddy. Dive Safely and Dive Often!
