LAKE TAHOE - East Shore
Zephyr Cove, 3 miles North of the South Lake Tahoe casinos.

(BEACH DIVES) - (SKILL LEVEL: BEGINNER TO INTERMEDIATE)

First off, here we are just having fun. Tony and Christine had just gotten married the night before at Zephyr Cove and we all decided to do a fun dive on Sunday morning. It was a lot of fun and the cold clear lake was welcome after a night of celebration.

Zephyr Cove is a resort managed by Aramark, and owned by the U.S. Forestry Service. It is a very shallow dive and not spectacular, but it does have trout, crayfish, and many rocks. The entrance is through a kiosk just pass the Zephyr Cove store on Highway 50 North of the stateline casinos. There is an $8.00 all day parking fee charged at the kiosk. The parking lot is seldom full and it is only a very short walk through the trees to the beach from the North end of the parking lot. Turn left at the stoplights just past the store coming from South Shore. That brings you into the kiosk and parking areas.

The bottom is the standard Lake Tahoe sand and granite with an occasional fish or crayfish coming into view. This location remains shallow for a long way, and I never got deeper than 25 feet or so. It does have a nice appeal, because if you are staying in South Lake Tahoe, it is very close, and the beach is not over run with people. It seems to be a little known treasure. The beach is also a great place to launch kayaks, etc.

Please note that this dive site is actually in the state of Nevada. You must tow a dive flag and stay within 100 feet of the flag while diving. Please Note: This area has a lot of boating activity, be extremely careful when diving in an area with boating activity.
