Cave Rock State Park is a very nice area just about 10 miles north of South Lake Tahoe on Highway 50. The day use fee is only $6.00 for swimming and kayaking, etc. If you want to launch a boat at their ramp, the cost goes up to $12.00 per day. This park has restrooms, a great parking lot, and a picnic area at the end of the parking lot overlooking a very nice beach. Most of the parking lot has spots designated for boat trailer parking. There are 16 spots designated for car parking, and they are painted white. It is almost impossible to make a mistake parking, as the "camphost" is one of the most efficient I have ever seen, and this good ole boy is also extremely vocal - be kind, as we may all be in his shoes someday.
The entry off the beach is extremely easy, just a short walk and you are in and wet. The bottom is the standard Lake Tahoe sand and granite with an occasional fish or crayfish coming into view. This location remains shallow for a long way, and I never got deeper than 35 feet or so. It does have a nice appeal, because if you are staying in South Lake Tahoe, it is very close, and the beach is not over run with people. It seems to be a little known treasure. The beach is also a great place to launch kayaks, etc.
