Blackwood Beach is extremely easy access for the Scuba Diver. It is located right off the side of Highway 89, and there is usually free ample parking available in the road shoulder next to the beach. The dive itself is unspectacular, but it does have a similar drop off which equals Meeks Bay. Be careful as the drop descends rather quickly about 200 feet from shore. The boats are plentiful in the summer time, and the South end of this small "cobble" beach is placarded "NO BATHING" - I think that also includes Scuba Divers. The North end of this beach has no such placard, and North of the dock there are no visible boat anchorages. There is a recreation path which parallels the Lake at this location - please be courteous and keep your dive gear off of the pathway.

The only sights to see at this location are the antics of other divers, and of course let's not forget the crayfish and small trout. Again a word of caution - the Lake gets very deep very quickly at this location. At about 45 feet the dropoff becomes rather abrupt. This is a great spot to cool off, with very easy access - but don't expect to see any large granite formations which are common over the rest of Lake Tahoe.
The facilities on the beach are nil, zip, squat, nada, zero. Oh well, at least you won't have to rinse your gear after a dive. There are little or no granite formations on this dive, just a sandy bottom littered with logs, boat anchorfasts, and "crawdads". Watch your depth; it is recommended that you go no deeper than 96 feet, which is equivalent to 125 feet at sea level.
The decision to dive (or not) is your responsibility. Keep diving activities within your training and comfort level. If you feel more training or experience is needed before attempting a dive, don't dive. Know personal limits, skill levels, and abilities of yourself and your dive buddy. Dive Safely and Dive Often!
